Wednesday book study via Zoom
Join us Wednesday evenings at 7:00, beginning November 4th on Zoom, as we discuss the most influential, controversial and profitable book of the nineteenth century. Leaving the confines of what society deemed acceptable, Harriet Beecher Stowe set out to write a novel that would shine the light of God's Truth on the evils inherent in the institution of slavery in the United States. The daughter of a Calvinist pastor, (considered by many to be the best preacher of his time,) Harriet combined her faith with her writing skills to develop the admirable and likable character, "Uncle Tom". Using strong Christian imagery, she draws readers into the story that will leave them calling for the abolition of slavery.
This book will allow us to explore the themes of Christian imagery in the novel, and discuss more current topics like race relations, human trafficking and how we can all be people of faith who impact our culture and society.
